Information and network session for teachers

As part of the Climate Initiative, an information gathering and networking session was organised jointly by HSBC and EWS-WWF at the HSBC offices on November 23, 2011.

Speakers from a local utility company like FEWA (Federal Environment & Water Authority), waste management organisations like DULSCO and Be’eah, FARNEK, a facilities management company, Sharjah Natural History Museum. provided the teachers with basic tips and information on how to use and track resource utilization effectively. 

In order for schools to get a first- hand understanding of sustainable practices that lead to limited utilization of resources, and how Green buildings function, a member of the Emirates Green Building Council gave the audience some simple tips on how to keep schools green without going through any retrofits.

Following the session, teachers got the opportunity to visit Pacific Controls, the 1st Platinum LEED certified building in the Middle East. Officials from Pacific Controls gave teachers a detailed tour of the green building and explained how they manage to efficiently utilize their resources without compromising on their lifestyle during work hours.
